There are a few books I really want to get to in May. I also have some holiday coming up and potentially more time for reading. However, considering the saturation feels I had mid-month in April, I’m not risking it too much in May and only using this TBR as a guide and not set in stone.
I’ve set myself 5 books this month which I hope I’ll read without problems and an additional two if I feel like it. A few of these will be based on the Try A Chapter tag I did last week and got stuck with another 5 books to read, lol.
Again the link for each book title brings you to their GoodReads page where you can read the synopsis. Enjoy!
From My ARC Shelf
All my ARCs are provided with thanks by NetGalley and their publishers. Thank you!
Runebinder by Alex R Kahler – I found this interesting firstly because of its Viking style dystopian setting, or something. Secondly, because the main character is gay and doesn’t explain himself, which I feel occurs a lot lately. If you are LGBT+, do you walk around explaining to yourself why you feel the way you do? Not very likely. So why do they have to do it in books? Anyway, I hope this will be a refreshing read. I will definitely do a review of this.
Mirage by Somaiya Daud – The main character is kidnapped to be the body double of a hated princess, that she also hates, set in space. I mean, DRAMA! Another review to come.
Bones and Bourbon by Dorian Graves – This sounds funny and I have already started it. A half-huldra Ritz is sharing his body with a bone-controlling spirit who likes to take him on joy rides (lol). His brother Jarrod tries to release him from this possession but ends up with a fairy curse as a paranormal investigator along with his boyfriend. They are both running from carnivorous unicorns, possessive spirits, parents, paranormal world, and hopefully make it out alive, or sober. I really hope this is funny! Definitely reviewing this!
The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang – Asian based fantasy with shamanism magic and old angry gods – and that is all I need *request ARC* 😁 I have also heard there is some LGBT+ stuff in here, not entirely sure what, who or to what extent, but bound to be interesting.
From My Physical Shelf
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey – I borrowed this book from a friend over Christmas and I havent gotten to it yet. Now she is visiting at the end of May so I really need to read it before then so I can give it back.
I Need To Finish Already!
None this month. I’m on top of things! Well done me!!
Hoping To Get To
Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan – Part of the Try a Chapter Tag. I mean sorcerer-archaeologists! Do I need to say more?
The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima – Part of the Try a Chapter Tag. I got quite emotionally invested during that first chapter so I’m hoping I can get to this sometime this month.
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote – Part of the ReadHarder 2018 challenge in the category of True Crime.
New releases this month I want to read
War Storm by Victoria Aveyard – 4th book in the Red Queen series. I’m very much looking forward to this release! I have pre-ordered it on audiobook and it will be available to download on the 15th May. Good thing I’m going on holiday on the 16th 😁
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas – I ordered the Illumicrate Starfall box with a paperback version! When I’m writing this I know the shipping will start on Wednesday the 2nd May. Fingers crossed it won’t be delayed 🤞 So if anyone is interested, I can do an unboxing blog of that when it arrives. Let me know.
So that’s it guys! Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Have you read any of these before? What did you think? No spoilers, please!
Now you’ll excuse me but I have reading to do…
I have read Thief’s Magic and was not terribly enamoured… I liked it at the beginning, but it dragged a bit halfway through. Having said that, I loved her other books, so… I’m also trying to get around to War Storm and A Court of Frost and Starlight, which I’m quite excited about!

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I do expect a slower book mainly because it’s an adult fantasy and they tend to be slow-ish. I haven’t read anything by her yet, I just keep accumulating her books 🤦♀️
🤗🤗🤗 I can’t wait for them to arrive in my hands!!

Well, if you don’t like it too much, I highly recommend her Black Magician trilogy! Good luck with it!
