NaNoWriMo Week 2

week 2 is done …

Words are being typed, several of them. I don’t think they are all the right ones (some might be in Norwegian rather than English, but the meaning is the right one) and I don’t think they are all spelt correctly, but the word count increases. Full steam ahead ๐Ÿ˜

The goal is to write 50 000 words in 30 days from 1st November to the 30th November. It can be whatever you want to write, but I did the classic and started the 1st chapter of my new novel ๐Ÿค—ย I’m currently on chapter 9

OK, I’m gonna tell you some stuff about this project.

My MC is Jac (short for Jaqueline), and she is the Captain of the Belladonna a beautiful trading ship. Jac specialises in special trading which has its own Top 10 Traders List. Jac knows who’s been in first place for her entire life. She herself has struggled to get pas 8th place, until now. She got offered a job which is worth enough point to challenge the first place. But shortcuts aren’t always short. Her cargo turns out to be a complication and is alive. AND there are others who don’t want her to succeed and will do anything to make sure she doesn’t complete. The job becomes more dangerous and longer every day. To top it off she is struggling with her own traumatic past which she is getting closer to face every day.

I’m still ahead of my word count. Since last week it has been up and down on reaching the daily word count. I’m very happy that I decided to take ever Wednesday off in November. At least I have a day to recover the word count on. It doesn’t help that LALAthon passed with success, 2 and 1/2 book read. I should have spent that time writing.

I reached my daily word goal on Sunday, but I only managed to scrape 1k on Monday and Tuesday. Then I did a massive stint on Wednesday with over 3k. On Thursday and Friday, I ended up with only 300 words each. But yesterday I did over 5k words! It’s a new record for me! I’m very happy about it, and my hands aren’t that bad today either.

As you can see on the graph below, it shows a straight line which is the progress you would have if you wrote 1667 words a day, and within 30 days you would have 50 010 words.

This is how my bullet journal word count tracker is currently looking. I colour in a new box for every 1k I write. There are 49 boxes. When I hit 50k I will ink in and colour the sparkling stars you could barely make out.

This is my NaNo gem ๐Ÿ’Ž ๐Ÿ˜‚

It’s been a steady race. Some scenes are much easier to write than others. And some scenes become bigger than planned. I havent had too many plot bunnies and I have managed to keep to the outline I set which I’m very happy about. I’m also very happy that I did outline. It makes it easier to write and to start every writing session because I always know where they are going and why.

I’m not sure I will manage to keep to 50k though. I have a feeling it will take more than that to finish this story. If that’s the case I will continue into December.

It took me a few chapters to figure out how to spell ANCHOR. I kept spelling it in Norwegian which is ANKER. It’s close enough so I went with it ๐Ÿ˜‚ย and my spellchecker didn’t know it and didn’t autocorrect it so I can go back andย “find and replace all”

My Hands

From last weeks post: For those of you how don’t know, I have RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) in both hands, fingers and arms – fun times. I got it last year and I’ve slowly recovered since. For the last two months, I have not had any pain/soreness/pins and needles and it’sย been great ๐Ÿค—ย (that emoji has never been more on point). However, I have been worried about NaNoWriMo for this specific reason. I don’t want it to come back, I want to keep it down. I told myself that yes NaNoWriMo is the main priority this month but only as long as my hand and fingers are ok with that decision. I’m not going to push it.

The week has been a weird one. I have had minor soreness in all parts but it differs from day to day. I have done my physio prescribed exercises every day. I know if I don’t do them it’s coming back to bite me. But I have also done regular exercise, especially those that focus on putting pressure on my wrists. A few sun salutations with downward dog, and yoga push-ups into upward down work great. Then I found that inchworms using only my arms works great for releasing tension in my wrists and fingers. My theory is that putting pressure on it and using all the muscles in my arms writs and fingers will make the build up tension and fluids more away and out of my arms. I think I got the theory confirmed as I didn’t do any exercise on Wednesday and it really did bit me on Friday.

I’m good ๐Ÿ‘

Word by word. Not day by day.

Also has anyone made/seen a NaNoWriMo/writing blog tag go around? I really want to do one. Something similar to a book tag but for your own WIP or writing progress. Anyone? Let me know ๐Ÿ˜Š

Happy writing and happy reading!

    1. Thank you!! It really matter that you think so. Iโ€™ve been reading others WIP synopsis think mine is a bit lame, so THANKS! โค๏ธ so far itโ€™s really fun and (I cant say it enough) I very happy I outlined ๐Ÿ˜‚ less stress and starring at a blank document trying to figure out what to write. Fingers crossed itโ€™s just as fun at the end of NaNo ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜

      1. You definitely shouldn’t compare yourself to others! Everyone has different ideas and such. I think the execution matters way more and, besides, it’s always easier to think someone else’s ideas are better than your own. ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha! Good prep definitely helps tons! Doesn’t matter what the end-goal is, really. ๐Ÿ˜›

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
