2019 Most Anticipated SFF Books Pt.1 – Hyped

This is Part 1 of 2 posts on 2019 releases.

I’m looking forward to the new year both for the new books, the continued series and the new reading challenges and a fresh start 😁.

There are so many interesting books coming out next year, and I feel there is a lot of diverse fantasy coming out. 2018 was a very good year for diverse fantasy, and better than the previous years. Do you agree? Not only did we have diverse books and stories and characters, but we had a rise in diverse authors and #ownvoices books. This means it could only get better and even more diverse. Right?

I’ve decided to divide this list into 2 parts; hyped and underhyped. Hyped books (this post) is books I know other people are eagerly waiting for too. The second part (found here) is focused on underhyped books or books I have not heard any talk of.

Let dive into the hyped books 😁

Very Hyped Books

The Dragon Republic by RF Kuang

I loved book 1! So much! And I wasn’t expecting that at all. I was hoping I would like it but I didn’t know. I picked it up as an ARC and there was no hype for it at the time. It is how I like my books; not knowing much. But I really loved it and I can’t wait for book 2!

Kingdom of Copper by S A Chakraborty

Book 2 in a series and I want to know what happens. I need to figure out why certain things happened at the end of book 1. You can’t just end a book like that!

Crescent City by Sarah J Maas

A new series by SJM and it’s finally for adults. I feel a lot of her books should be at least new adult fantasy and not YA. So a pure adult book should be interesting. I have no idea what it’s about.

no cover yet…

The Priory of Orange Trees by Samantha Shannon

Have you seen the size of this book? 848 pages! Also bioluminescence dragons? Sold!

I know Samantha Shannon will write good stuff and I will read it. I don’t know much about it. But it has bioluminescence dragons which are basically all I need.

The Wicked King by Holly Black

I very much enjoyed book 1 and I am interested in book 2, though I’m not in a rush. I have also very much enjoyed the twitter account for incorrect Cruel Prince quotes 😂

Also how wicked will he really be? 😏 Can’t wait

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

I loved Six of Crows and I have yet to read the Grisha Trilogy but from the experience of Crooked Kingdom I do like Nikolai as a character and I would very much like to follow his story.

I don’t know much about it but I don’t think I need to. I will read this at some point 😊

Children of Vice and Virtue by Tomi Adeyemi

Book 2 is the Children of Blood and Bone series! Finally going back to Zelie and follow her as she brings magic back to the people.

Less Hyped Books

Storm of Locus by Rebecca Roanhorse

Book 2 in the urban fantasy Native American series that I was super excited for last year when book one came out. It did not disappoint and I need book 2 now!

We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal

I’ve seen this around blogs and twitter for a while and it sounds very interesting. I will definitely have a look when it comes out. I (again) don’t know much about it but it is ancient Arabia inspired fantasy

Do You Dream of Terra Two? by Temi Oh

There has been some talk about it but not much. It sounds very interesting and I do have an ARC which I’m excited for. I also really like the premise and the cover.

In short, the book is about 10 astronauts leaving a dying Earth for Terra Two with no options of return or rescue if something goes wrong.

Apparently, its The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet meets The 100 😱

What’s not to love?

Let me know in the comments which one of these caught your interest.

  1. I am looking forward to both the King of Scars as well as The Wicked King. I’m also looking forward to The Winter of the Witch.
So many great books, I’m definitely taking notes. 😊👌

    1. Yeah I separated the big and the small so this list is quite big. You should check out my other post for the underhyped books. Links at the top of this post 😊 you’ll find all the small titles in there. I think I prefer the small titles. They are more interesting because of the lack of hype I think. And yes it’s going to be a good year 😁
