I can never find a reading challenge that covers everything I want to do while keeping it open enough for me to read whatever I want. There is always something on the challenges I find annoying or just don’t like. Last year (on the last leg now) I did the ReadHarder Challenge which was really good, but some challenges were tedious.
So I made my own this year๐
I made this in November. I was so desperate to start planning for the new year and no other reading challenges were out yet. I will post another blog about 2019 reading challenges if you need to find one, but you are very welcome to join mine ๐
I looked through several challenges from 2018. I picked out a few, modified a few, and created a few on my own to get a complete list of challenges I feel is challenging and fun ๐ I then compared mine to the just-released 2019 challenges and found some on my so-called “original” ideas to not be so original after all… ๐
I will be able to mix and match challenges as I see fit. Why? Becauseย I made this challenge and I make the rules…
All in all, there are 50 challenges (hence the name “Ultimate”) and I’ve divided it into categories because I’m an organisation freak (it’s even colour coded in my bullet journal… ๐คทโโ๏ธ) The categories are as follows;
- EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; involves race, gender, age, disability, and religion (also LGBT+ but I’ve separated it ๐ค))
- LGBT+
- Series
- Me Myself & I
- Type of books
- Geography
- Randoms
I must admit I have created a few challenges with a specific book in mind. Those are mostly books I wanted to read last year but didn’t get to. Those challenges are marked with an ๐ฝย (alien emoji)

It’s a big challenge but you can join me if you like ๐
A lot of these challenges require research. This will give an excellent opportunity for adding content on my blogย ๐ย I will share with you some specified TBRs (my options) for a few of these challenges and give you an insight to my selection of the more complex ones. Let me know in the comment which challenge you would like a top 5/10 TBR for ๐
I’ll check in halfway through.
Now I need to go back to reading because I still havent finished my 2018 challenge yet…
wow! Good luck!

I love how organised this list of challenges is, I definitely want to broaden my reading choices next year and this seems like a perfect way to complete a challenge as well as hopefully find some favourites! Thanks for sharing and bringing these together x

Wow, this is impressive! I’m looking forward to your updates throughout the year! There are a few of these that I kind of do informally, but maybe I need to make them more of an actual challenge. Thanks for the reminder!

Ha, your motivation to create this challenge is exactly why I created a huge bingo for myself last year!
This time, I’m back to the Popsugar Reading Challenge though. ๐
Have fun with it and good luck! ๐

๐ well sometimes we just need to be extra challenged ๐ Iโm not sure if Iโll do it next year, I can already see flaws in it. It is a lot of work creating your own so I donโt blame you. Thanks!

Eh, you simply tweak it as you go and then next year you’ll know how to do it right in one or two tries! ๐
