BOOK TAG: RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR

book tag headerI got tagged by the lovely Hanna over at HannaWSReads. If you haven’t been on her blog please go visit 🙂 Thank you so much for this tag, I really enjoyed doing it 🙂

What a year it has been! This tag was a brilliant way for me to look back on 2018 after having a great start to 2019. There already are differences and I’ve included some of those thoughts in here.

Enjoy!

QUESTIONS

♠ Best book and/or series that you’ve read in 2018?

An Unkindness of Ghosts! Its the no. 1 book for me without competition. I did a full review here . Its a standalone book set in space with an exploration of all sort of social issues and LGBT+.

That’s a photo of the author with her book… not me… lol

♠ Authors that you’ve recently found and would like to read more of in the new year?

Rivers Solomon is currently on top but I read a lot of new authors last year including; Holly Black, Patrick Ness, Maggie Stiefvater, Becky Albertalli, Clementine Ford, Laini Taylor, Moira Young, Nnedi Okorafor, Nicky Draydon, Rebecca Roanhorse, Cherie Dimaline, Jess Richards, R.F. Kuang, Leigh Bardugo, just to name a few.

♠ Most anticipated book turned to a movie/TV show?

For 2018? I didn’t pay much attention but probably American Gods (or was that 2017?), though I’ve only watched the first episode and I loved it. In the UK, American Gods are shown on Prime Video which I don’t have.

I’m more excited for a few things that are planned to come out in 2019/20. I hope Raven Boys will be in 2019. I also wish for more news on the Queen of Shadow Hulu pre-development phase.

Honestly, I’m not fussed with adaptations. However, one of the points on my reading challenge for 2019 is to watch an adaptation then read the book (yes in that order!). So, I really should do some research on this and become more fussed…

♠ Name a character that you wouldn’t mind sharing a kiss with at midnight (if there is one)?

I did not have a great ship year. And I did not have a great book crush year. 2019 is so far (3 weeks in) a better year already in relation to crushes and shipping. Anyone else feels that way?

But if I have to choose one I’ll pick Kaz from six of crows, but only if he’ll let me. Not gonna force him to have skin-to-skin contact if he doesn’t want to.

Or Cassian from A Courts of Frost and Starlight 🙂 I think ill do that instead of Kaz and respect his issues.

♠ What’s on your TBR for 2019?

Lots!

Firstly, I have just preordered A Priory of The Orange Tree by Shamanth Shannon. Secondly, I wrote a whole post of hyped books I’m excited for too.

But to be honest I’m way more excited for my underhyped books. Like Rivers Solomon’s new book “Deep” which comes out in June. It’s about an underwater society descendant from slave women! Its bound to be good and to explore social issues in a sci-fi setting as her previous book did.

2019 book releases aside, I have a whole bookshelf filled with books I need to read. I really want the finish A Darker Shade Of Magic series by V. E. Schwab, and Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan. And then I really want to start The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon and Godsgrave by Jay Kristof.

I’m thinking of doing an existing TBR shelf (physical books) grid where I can just cross things out as I read hem. But I haven’t gotten that far yet. It would be nice by the end of the year to see how it changes both with books I’ve crossed off and books I’ve added. Yo guys got any thoughts on this? I would love to hear them. I could even to the same with series. ideas…..

♠ How many books do you hope to read in 2019?

For my GoodReads goal, I set 85 books. This will not change. I don’t change my goal on GoodReads ever, even after I reach it (I put my stubborn donkey heels down on this). My GoodReads goal is what I think I can manage to read at the beginning of the year, and act as a guideline not a “live or die” finish line.

I do hope I can read 100 books this year though. I originally wanted to put 100 on my challenge but I  also want to write more and edit more so I lowered it to 85 books to give myself some breathing space.

We’ll see.

♠ Will you participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge or any others?

See answer above. Yes. 85 books, but I considered putting 100 books.

I also created my own reading challenge because I couldn’t find anyone that had all prompts that were interesting. It’s big and long and challenging so I called it…

The Ultimate HomeMade Reading Challenge 2019!
♠ Any new year’s resolutions?

Not really. I’m not a resolution type of girl. I prefer just doing them instead of saying I’ll start next year, or I’ll start on Monday. I’ll just start now and see how long I can keep it.

I’m currently trying to stay sugar-free, which is proven difficult. No sweets and no cakes… torment…

If anyone would like to do this tag please feel free and remember to include the rules up on top. Enjoy!
