Faebruary Readathon Wrap-up

it’s the end of Faebruary yet again…

It was all about all things fae, fairy, faerie, or however you would like to spell it. I encountered mostly fae but also faerie and fairy.

Faebruary is created and hosted by Sarah-Jane over at The Book Life on youtube and this is her announcement video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sk_2n7SROw

There is also a Goodreads Group with ideas and discussions on fae books: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/…

I’m wrapping this readathon up two days early but it is a month-long readathon so I won’t miss out too much. Also, I read 6 books during this readathon and I don’t think I can read another within the next two days. I’m too busy. So this is it then.

I did my TBR late last month. I stuck to it for the most part. There is only one book I didn’t read, but I swapped it for a different one ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Let see what I read and what I thought about them ๐Ÿ˜Š

Books Read During the Readathon

faebruary 19 wrap up

The Girl Who Fell (The Chronicles of Chess Raven #1) by Violet Grace

4 stars

Opinion: this contains sexy unicorns… and I’m still not sure whether to laugh or to take it seriously… They are shapeshifting unicorns and are sexy hunky men in their human form, and great stallions in their unicorn form ๐Ÿ˜‚ Story-wise though, I kind of enjoyed it. It’s set in London and in Fairyland. It follows the main character Chess as she gets dragged into the world of fairy and told she is half-fairy. It was fun and action-packed. There was some simple stuff in here but I managed to overlook them.

Wicked King by Holly Black

5 star leaves

Opinion: I mean, Holly Black is the queen of storytelling. I did not see the end coming even though I knew what the next book was called and could kind of predict the outcome, I still didn’t see that coming. And even though I knew she will create a happy ending in the last book I’m unsure how happy it will be and she is making me doubt myself and the characters in their ability to create a happy ending. It was well done and I worship it…

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

4 stars

Opinions: I’ve read all the other books by Cassandra Clare but it’s been a while. Picking this up I expected a few things: action, drama, forbidden love and a potential love triangle. I got it all! I listen to this on audiobook and really enjoyed the narration. I loved Emma and Christina as characters.

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

4 stars

Opinions: Book 2 in the series and it continues straight after book 1, Lady Midnight. Again the forbidden love, drama, love triangle, and action occur, as expected. But we get more time with some characters we did get time within the first book, like Gwen and Diana. I loved Diana’s background history! Absolutely LOVED it! Also, the way Gwen reacts is amazing! I will ship these two! The ending of this book was very dark and sudden and a lotย happened. I did not see that coming and I had to listen to it twice. I hope it’s not all as it seems for the last book. I don’t think I can handle the trio being split into two.

Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire

4.5 stars

Opinion: First of all, the main character is asexual! just like me!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚ it felt great reading that in the first few chapters. Loved it! Also, the story was interesting and very original to me. I loved the house, the setting, the characters. I found Eleanore West’s first few dialogues quite funny. My favourite was when she introduces Nancy to the rest of the house and says if anyone wants to bet on who killed who first (Nancy or her roommate) to talk to Kade! this is a funny light but gory book. I loved it. and the ending left me with a very light and fluffy tummy. I was very happy and it lasted a long time.

Blood Fever by Karen Marie Moning

4 stars

Opinion: I read the first book in this series, Faefever, during last year’s Faebruary. Picking up the sequel I was nervous I would have forgotten most of the stuff in book one, considering it had been a year! But I didn’t have to be. The book starts off with a sort of summary or introduction and it was very helpful. I like these books. They are quick and easy to read. Mac isn’t my favourite female character in a book, but I don’t dislike her either. I think my dislike is rooted in her obsession with looking good and having men catcall and whistle after her. I hate those things. Anyway, I like the story and the way the book is heading. There are several new things in this book which makes the entire story feel bigger and fatter. Lastly, what is Barrons?? not who, but what is he? I need to know these things. I might pick up the next book before next years faebruary.

Reading Challenges

faebruary 2019

Overall, I did fairly well. Of all the reading challenges I managed to read 1-3 books, but also 4-10 books.

I read a new author which was Seanan McGuire and Violet Grace (which apparently is a pen name for a couple, who knew).

I did not complete a series but I did read several sequels and both YA and Adult books.

I read a book I’ve had for over 6 months which were Bloodfever, which I was supposed to read during last years Faebruary but never got to. I have also owned Every Heart A Doorway for a very long time but I’m not sure its a full 6 months yet.

The Girl Who Fell gets stolen away to fairy and the main character was Fairy royalty and so was the Wicked King. They were pretty much all fae royalty. it seems to be a popular trope.

There were also several human/fae romances especially Mark and Kieran and Christina in Lady Midnight and Lord of Shadows. I really liked those two and their drama. But there were also Diana and Gwen in Lord of Shadows who I really loved! They are my new ship.

When it comes to genre, I’m not sure how this is counted. I read fantasy and paranormal. But that’s it as far as I know.

Wicked King was a recent release; it came out in January 2019.

Last challenge is deceived by the fae, and I felt it almost happened in every single book, but especially in Wicked King. That is the most memorable one. What ending!

That means I have turned into DARK FAE!!! oh no! watch out! I might turn up and tie knots in your hair! make you eat fairy fruit and make you dance until your feet fall off! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I really enjoyed this readathon again. I already can’t wait for next year!

Anyone else participating in Faebruary this year?
