WWW Wednesday – 24th April ’19

It’s the final days of TomeTopple people!

Welcome to my WWW Wednesday meme post, originally hosted by Taking in a World of Words. All I need to do is answer the three questions below which all start with a W.

The three W’s are
  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll be reading next?

What I’m currently reading?

The Luminaries by Eleanor CattonTomeTopple – Historical fiction and mystery set in New Zealand during the gold hunt and prospecting times. This is my audiobook after Illuminae. It’s an OK read. I’m not yet fully swept up into the mystery yet. I don’t think I’ll finish this within the time frame of the readathon, but we’ll see.

A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi LeeTomeTopple – This is my lunch book for the two week readathon and my backup book. I’m about 35% in and even though I’m enjoying it I find Monty to be quite useless and annoying. I hope I can finish this within the time frame, but I’m not 100% certain.

The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha ShannonTomeTopple – I’m loving this! It’s very interesting and quite a fast read in comparison to Gutten. I’m way over halfway and I’m hoping to finish this before the end of the readathon.

Gutten (The Boy) by Jon Kalman StefanssonTomeTopple – A story about a boy trying to live and survive in Iceland about 100 years ago. It’s a very dense text but interesting and I am enjoying it but it’s slow. Maybe not the best choice for a readathon, but I wouldn’t have gotten around to it otherwise. I’m about halfway. I don’t think I will finish this within the time frame but at least I made a serious dent in it. Also I’m very glad I’m reading this during warm weather, as it’s a very cold book with a lot of snow and storms and cold water and freezing to death…

The A-Z of Gender and Sexualities by Morgan PottsOn Hold! – I’m on S and Survivor. I’m close to the end of this book, but it currently on hold due to TomeTopple 🙂

Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah HarariOn Hold! – I ‘ve gotten this back now, but unsure when I’ll be able to pick it back up.

What I just finished?

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay KristoffTomeTopple – I listened to the audiobook for this and quite enjoying it. It’s a very interesting format with interviews, IM’s, emails, blacked out documents, transcripts of surveillance videos, etc. It’s very well done on the audiobook. I will definitely continue with the series.

What I’m reading next?

I think I’ll finish what I have started first…

until next time

  1. The Priory of the Orange Tree is one of my favourite books I’ve read recently, it’s just SO GOOD, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! I read the first 2 books of The Illuminae Files and somehow never got to Obsidio, but I really want to! Might have to reread the first two before I do though…
