Mid-Year Reading Challenge check-in – The Ultimate Home Made Reading Challenge 2020

It’s July already and I don’t know where the year has gone. I made my own reading challenge in December last year because why not. I did the same the year before. And I really loved putting it all together. Doing them on the either hand is somewhat trickier. Especially when you forget about them, haha!

I have yet to look at this so let’s see if I actually remember them all or not.

Let’s see how well/bad I’m doing on the challenge then πŸ™‚

Reading Challenges

A translated fantasy/magical realism book βœ…

A book written by a comedian ❌

Not yet, but I got Ali Wong’s book in mind for this

A book chosen based on the title alone βœ…

A book set on an island βœ…

A book about a small community βœ…

A book written in English by someone who learnt English as a second language ❌

Oh shit! I completely forgot about this one. I need to do some research on it. I have no idea if any of the books I’ve read qualifies for this.

An own voice SFF from three different continents ❌

So far I’ve got North-America (Native American), South America (Ecuador-American) but I did get a Central American feel from this book so maybe that’s where it’s kind off set, and Africa (Nigerian-American). Do you think I can do all 7 continents?

A queer SFF βœ…βœ…

Yeah, I think I got this one covered…

A social media recommendation ❌

I’ve almost completely forgotten about my bookstagram account. The last photo I posted was back in February, pre-covid apparently. I need to get back into it.

+800 page classic ❌

Not yet, but I have decided on The Count of Monte Cristo and it’s been on my TBR since April…

5 books I bought in 2018 (including Audible purchases) ❌

Only The Hazel Wood and The Tigers Daughter so far. I need to pick up a few more. I had forgotten this one though so now I should go through all the books I bought in 2018 so I have a list to tick off.

A 2019 GoodReads People Choice winner βœ…

Recursion by Blake Crouch. I have to admit I didn’t know this was a winner… haha! how lucky πŸ™‚

A penguin modern classic ❌

Not yet and I haven’t made up my mind either for this one. I had forgotten about this one.

A book by an author who past away in 2018 βœ…

Ursula K LeGuin

Pre-2000 SFF written by a female author βœ…

Left Hand of Darkness

A book about writing ❌

Not yet, but I bought one…

I might be able to fill several of these with books, but the ultimate goal is to to have no repetitions of books per challenge. So I have some work in front of me πŸ™‚

  1. It looks like you are doing good. I set my own reading challenge every year, but it runs more genre specific. Then, my NaNoWriMo book is in that genre, It’s a little game I play with myself. #henhouselady

  2. You’re doing pretty well! And you still have half a year to go so I have faith in you. πŸ™‚

I think this challenge you made for yourself is pretty cool too, I like the different goals for what kinds of books you want to read. πŸ™‚
