WWW Wednesday – 12th August 2020

It’s TomeTopple!

Welcome to my WWW Wednesday meme post, originally hosted by Taking in a World of Words. All I need to do is answer the three questions below which all start with a W.

The three W’s are
  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll be reading next?

House of Earth & Fire (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J Maas – TomeTopple – AAAAA! its good! Why is her writing so addictive?! I don’t know what it is but I can’t stop thinking about it! I’m exactly halfway through. Hope to finish by the weekend 🙂

Black and British: A Forgotten History by David Olusoga – TomeTopple – This is super interesting and really well written. It talks about the events erased from the general history which actually affected the world history. It also goes all the way back to roman times in the UK where roman rich and wealthy graves have been analysed (with isotopes and carbon dating) to have African origin and not just north African but sub-Saharan Africa. I’m over halfway and have arrived at the 20th century, just before the first world war.

Who Fears Death? by Nnedi Okorafor – On Hold! – No progress since last week but I will finish this when I finish my TomeTopple books. I will!

The Thirteenth Tale by Diana Setterfield – Not TomeTopple but still reading it. Almost done. I plan to finish this book today. It’s not amazing but general fiction / mystery isn’t my favourite genre. It is however holding my attention which is saying something 😉

Death On The Nile by Agatha Christie – book club pick for August. I did manage to guess from the first death who did it… Unfortunately. I had three suspects from the first death which increased to four suspect after the second death. But the end showed two of my initial suspect actually did it. So I was right, but I had options so not made my mind up 100%. On a downside, I don’t like the way all Egyptians are completely excluded from the story. They are so far either refereed to as “black figures with outstretched hands”, “black faces” or stupid and in need for help from the white man. It’s annoying. It’s more annoying than the old school view of women and hysteria… There were a lot of white supremacy and misogyny.

I have plenty to get on with on my August TBR. But my TomeTopple TBR only has another two options so it more likely that either two of them will get picked. I can’t wait for the final instalment of Illuminae! And to finally get started on The Count of Monte Cristo.

until next time

  1. Black and British is a book I have had my eye on – it sounds so interesting. It’s amazing how skewed history is. Not only in terms of race, but also in terms of who has written it. The conquerors get to write history, I guess.

      1. Oh no! I never connect how long an audio book will be when the book is so big. I really really hope you like it now as I don’t want you undergoing a form of book torture.
